1. Wienachtsdorf at the Opera: the largest and most popular Xmas market

Christmas in Zurich without a visit to the “Wienachtsdorf” Christmas Village isn’t really Christmas! That’s why your first stop upon arrival should be Wienachtsdorf, one of the largest Christmas markets in Zurich and my personal favorite! You’ll find it at Sechseläutenplatz square, right in front of the Zurich Opera House.

Next to Lake Zurich, the Christmas village spreads out with dozens of small wooden houses and over 100 stalls selling handmade ornaments, candles, jewelry, hats, and gloves! Here you’ll also find Christmas mulled wine (glühwein), chocolate waffles, flachkuchen (similar to a crepe, you’ll find both sweet and savory versions), and of course fondue made with local cheese.

🗓️ Dates: The market opens for the first time on November 21 through December 23, 2025
📍 Location: In front of Zurich Opera House

2. Dörfli im Niederdorf: the oldest Christmas market in Zurich

Zurich’s oldest Christmas market is located in the heart of the city’s historic center. In the heart of the Niederdorf neighborhood in the Old Town, you’ll find a small, enchanting Christmas world with decorated, glittering stalls extending along Niederdorfstrasse and spreading into Hirschenplatz square.

🗓️ Dates: Opens November 21 through December 23, 2025
📍 Location: Old Town Zurich

Worldtravellen Tip: The Christmas market operates from 11:00am to 9:00pm Tuesday through Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays it stays open until 10:00pm, while on Sundays it closes earlier at 8:00pm.

3. Christkindlimarkt at main station: Europe’s largest indoor market

As soon as you arrive at Zurich’s main train station, the intense aroma of mulled wine, cinnamon, and star anise will guide you to the wooden chalets and the impressive 10-meter-tall Christmas tree.

The Christkindlimarkt Christmas market at Zurich’s Main Station (Hauptbahnhof) is one of the largest indoor Christmas markets in Europe, with Lindt’s Christmas tree taking center stage, decorated with hundreds of chocolate pieces.

Worldtravellen Fun Fact: For Christmas 2025, Lindt’s Christmas tree may be the star, but in 2022 the same tree was adorned with hundreds of Swarovski crystals instead of Lindt chocolates! Let’s see which company will claim the tree decoration honor for Christmas 2026!

🗓️ Dates: November 21 – December 24, 2025

The Christmas market at Münsterhof is a jewel framed by the Fraumünster church and traditional houses. From historic Zurich Tirggel cookies from Bäckerei St. Jakob bakery and Tsüri sauces to igloo-shaped bars, the market at Münsterhof square is ideal for strolling and enjoying mulled wine.
